Frequently Asked Questions

What counts as an orthopedic procedure?
Any treatment for bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles, or nerves, from a joint injection in the office to a total hip replacement.
Do I need a referral?
No, unless your insurance plan says otherwise. You can book directly with any OAM specialty.
Where are procedures performed?
Injections, EMG testing, and other in-office procedures take place at OAM physician offices. Many surgeries take place at the OAM Surgery Center, an outpatient surgery center, and some take place in a hospital. Your surgeon will tell you where yours will happen.
How do I know if I need surgery?
An exam and imaging show your physician what’s causing the problem. If injections, therapy, or bracing can help, you’ll usually try those first. If not, your physician will walk you through the procedure, the recovery, and the expected results so you can decide together.
